SecureWorks and Microsoft Collaborate to Deliver Enhanced Protections for Security Vulnerabilities

ATLANTA, GA., October 14, 2008 - SecureWorks®, a leading Security as a Service (SaaS) provider, is among several organizations chosen to partner with Microsoft Corporation on its new Microsoft Active Protections Program (MAPP).  The MAPP will provide vulnerability information to security software providers in advance of Microsoft's monthly security update release so that they might be able to anticipate emerging threats and provide mutual customers with maximum protections.   Prior to launching MAPP, security software providers often had to wait until the public release of a Microsoft security update before they could begin building protections for new Microsoft vulnerabilities.  Now, they will have the intelligence and the research earlier so they can begin writing countermeasures in advance.

"Because SecureWorks has over 2,000 clients in key industries, our research team has great visibility into threats as they are emerging," said Jon Ramsey, chief technology officer for SecureWorks. "This invaluable insight, combined with our cutting-edge security technologies, enables our research team to develop and implement robust countermeasures on the fly. As a result, SecureWorks is able to block billions of attempted hacker attacks for our clients.  Having this new partnership with Microsoft will enhance our current efforts with additional information.  This creates value for everyone involved - especially our clients."

"Our partners share our passion for industry collaboration to protect a world full of Internet users," said Mark Miller, director of Microsoft's Trustworthy Computing product management.  "No one company can accomplish this by itself.  That is why we are partnering with SecureWorks to advance and improve security."
